Hedy Leung Ikebana Installation 3x7=21 Sogetsu Ikebana

I practise Sogetsu Ikebana, a contemporary approach to the Japanese art of flower arrangement rooted in impermanence, creativity, and balance. Through ephemeral performances and installations, I explore the human-nature relationship, particularly in the relation of diasporic identity, cultural memory, and community resilience.

Since 2017, I have studied under the tutelage of Sensei Ho Hin Shing and, in 2025, certified the Sogetsu Ikebana Teachers' Diploma 2nd Grade. I work with natural and found materials, including discarded objects, medicinal herbs, and community offerings. In these compositions, every element carries memory, transformation and meaning.

In addition to teaching, I have participated in art and cultural projects, artist residencies, and exhibitions with institutions and organisations including: CREATURE at London Metropolitan University, Liliesleaf Trust UK, Chelsea Physic Garden, The Kew branch of the Women’s Institute (London); PF25 cultural projects (Basel & Donarch); Fantasy Basel, Thomsen Gallery at Design Miami (Basel); Radio X, Atelier Mondial (Basel/ Münchenstein); The Japan Information and Cultural Center (Bern); HIAP Suomenlinna (Helsinki); E-WERK (Freiburg); Ma UMI Residences (Ishigaki); Open Hand Open Space (Reading); and Vitra Campus (Weil am Rhein).
